We are thrilled to announce that Friends of Rhodes Memorial will be allowed to clean up the Rhodes Memorial over Heritage Weekend. Its been a long time coming when we first wanted to clean up 24 April after the awful fire.

The Friends of Rhodes Memorial (Form) invites the public to join them in a clean-up of the monument on Saturday 25 September as part of Heritage Month. Dubbed the “Big
Mop Op”, the clean-up will be the first time volunteers will be allowed back on site following the devastating fire that raged through Devil’s Peak in April this year. South African National Parks (SANParks) has granted permission to Form to clean up in and
around the monument.

“Rhodes Memorial is for everyone. It’s a place of peace and contemplation for all people, it’s a gem of architecture and sightseeing that adds to our incredible Cape Town experience,”
says Gabriel, chair of Form. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Mostert’s Mill parking area at 09:30. Bring some black plastic bags, brooms and water. SANParks confirms the area is now open to hikers and cyclists, but it remains closed to all vehicles as the
contractor is still busy with tree felling in the area. SANParks advises the public to be careful and vigilant when they are in these areas. For more information, see www.friendsofrhodesmemorial.
